Although it is a relatively new clear brace system invented in the 2000’s compared with old traditional metal brace technology. Ice braces have become an extremely popular addition to our orthodontic brace options at Azure Dental for improving your smile. Whilst Invisalign invisible braces are still just the most popular method for straightening teeth. Ice Braces are catching up and has a number advantages over Invisalign which is attractive to adult brace patients especially.
Whilst still offering an excellent degree of invisibility as they blend into the tooth extremely well, Ice braces work using the traditional method of dental braces which means that it is very effective and generally much quicker than Invisalign treatment (a series of clear aligners worn for approximately 22 hours per day); treatment times are usually completed in approximately half the time in comparison as they are working non stop 24 hours per day. This means they are able to apply the gentle light tooth movement forces very effectively to allow the teeth to move in the correct way with complete control.
Ice clear braces is a cosmetic brace system that can be used in both simple fast brace straight teeth treatments, or more complex cases of orthodontic treatment. Cosmetic dentistry for fastbrace cases focuses on straightening the front six to ten teeth at the top and/ or the bottom jaws. By doing this, it can work quicker than braces which also aim to move the more securely embedded rear molar teeth. Whilst there are cases where this is necessary from a functional dental perspective, for many people a smooth straight even beautiful smile is their main aim. The Ice system is effective when applied to gap closure, crowded or crooked teeth and is also made less visible through the use of crystal clear brackets and white .
“Highly highly recommend Azure! I had my teeth straightened as a child but they moved back. My teeth looked ok when I was a child but they look a million times better now! Dan did so much more with my teeth including shaping them and using different techniques that made a massive difference! I actually can’t believe how different my smile now looks!! I can’t believe they’re my teeth! I can’t thank Dan and the team enough for everything they have done!
Another thing I really liked about Azure was how friendly all of the staff where and how they remember each individual patient and build a really great rapport.
Thank you all for everything you have done ”

Regular checks by our Azure Dental dentist team ensures that the treatment moves forward as planned. Any necessary adjustments to the position of the brackets as well as the size and shapes of wires used for the necessary tooth movements are then made. Review appointments are arranged a regular 4 weekly intervals to keep everything moving smoothly into line as quickly as possible.
Although Ice braces use wires and brackets like traditional braces (with clear translucent brackets rather than metal brackets). They are only very slightly more visible than Invisalign and a lot of patients prefer them because of the speed at which they work. This is especially important for patients who are aiming to have their teeth straightened by a certain date; perhaps a wedding or a special holiday. We are always happy to give our patients a potential expected treatment time that these braces will take to work- which is usually between 6 and 9 months, in order that they can plan ahead. Of course, each person is a totally unique individual case and times do vary based on the starting positions of the teeth and which teeth need the most movement. The canine teeth have extremely large roots and so always require more time and effort to move. The types of movements required also determines the time needed. Teeth needing simple forward and back movement are simpler and easier to move than teeth requiring large rotations or twisting. This is because the bone surrounding the teeth has to become flexible enough to allow each individual tooth movement to occur.
The flexibilty in the bone once the teeth have moved is the reason why that once straight, teeth need retainers to ensure they stay in there new positions. If not held stable while the bone tightens back around the teeth roots this is what allows further uncontrolled movement when the brace is taken off. To make sure that your hard work and effort to get straight teeth is maintained long term Azure Dental provide a “Belt and Braces” technique of retention. We belive this is the best and only way to ensure tooth stability. This technique uses both a fixed wire retainer which is glued onto the back of the front 6 teeth before the brace is even taken off and then a night time removable Essix style retainer is then manufactured from moulds taken of your teeth for you to wear while sleeping.
As with all types of braces and especially important for braces which use wires and brackets, special care needs to be taken when cleaning the teeth to avoid food becoming trapped. If left for a period of time, any food particles will start to affect the teeth. This can result in both extensive gum inflammation and swelling along with an increased risk of tooth decay. This can also cause darkening of tooth colour with staining while the braces are in place. But it also slows down tooth movement due to the extra friction built up around the bracket and wire, which is what moves the crown of the teeth into position.
We always discuss and demonstrate the best method of cleaning with you during your consultation and brace fitting appointments, as well as during the follow-up review visits to make sure everyone is able to look after their teeth properly.
Alongside clear braces these days modern cosmetic dentistry choices have developed considerably over the years. Alternatives to braces include treatments such as composite bonding or veneers, porcelain veneers or even dental implants in certain circumstances. These techniques are able to provide a more instant Hollywood style smile makeover by reshaping and covering the natural tooth structure.
Each treatment has its own features and benefits that give each technique advantages in the end result achieveble. A lot will depend on each person’s individual tooth condition and tooth positions. Which option or combination of options are chosen to achieve their treatment goals is unique based on these factors.
Quite often a treatment combination of braces to straighten the teeth then whitening to lift the colour and then composite bonding to repair any chips and wear damage are used to achieve the best possible outcome and a beautiful smile.
We offer a Free Consultation for clear braces to enable you to have all the correct information you need to choose the best straight teeth treatment option.
