The Hollywood Smile with Dental Veneers for a Smile Makeover, how they were originally used and their benefits for Formby, Liverpool and Merseyside patients today.
Cosmetic dentistry in the UK is relatively new to many people, especially compared to the US where it has been common practice for many years.
An increasing number of patients from throughout the Merseyside area are using the cosmetic treatments available at Azure Dental in order to give themselves a smile makeover they could only otherwise dream of.
In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, Hollywood films were becoming increasingly popular, with more and more people going to the cinema to see the latest films. Increasingly many of the films included romantic scenes where a close up was required of the ‘Stars of the Day’ such as Rudolph Valentino.
At this time, most actors and actresses both smoked and drank fairly heavily, long before the time came where health concerns were lifestyle habit related. It wasn’t uncommon for their set of teeth to be badly stained and far from attractive. This could certainly spoil a smile that took up a large part of the cinema screen!
To address this, a dentist called Dr Charles Pincus was asked to design a way of improving the appearance of an actor’s smile. To do this, he created dental porcelain veneers that were used to mask the stained surface of the actor’s upper teeth improving the smile.
Unsurprisingly, early dental veneers fitted were likely to have been cumbersome and served no long-term purpose (similar to todays temporary veneers), being used specifically only to address this cinematic issue. As with any invention that offers benefits, veneer materials and techniques have been refined and improved hugely over the years. We are now able to provide patients of Azure Dental with porcelain veneers that both look and feel entirely natural.
Porcelain veneers now offer hope to patients who have, for various reasons, visible teeth that are either very badly stained or may also have small chips and cracks that spoil their smile even after undertaking some zoom or enlighten evolution hollywood smile teeth whitening. These problems can now be corrected through cosmetic dentist treatments such as composite or porcelain veneers (composite veneers costs tend to be about 1/3rd less than the porcelain version due to the lack of master ceramic technician work required in the laboratory during the manufacturing phase.
Although the procedure does involve the removal of a thin layer of the damaged enamel using local anaesthetic to ensure everything is completely pain free. It is then replaced with a composite or porcelain veneer for a perfect smile; this is a relatively straightforward procedure and many of our Formby/ Liverpool patients have benefitted from it. Whilst a teeth whitening kit and procedure may be suitable for many who have discoloured teeth, it is good to know that dental veneer thin coverings are an option when that particular treatment will no longer produce effective results. Especially for cases, when teeth with wear and tear damage from grinding or discolouration from previous trauma to the teeth.

and are looking at the potential solution of dental implant treatment then please get in touch.
Implants are a very predictable treatment option. They have good long term success rates but require regular care and maintenance to ensure they remain healthy for as long as possible.
Implants are generally placed under local anaesthetic. Once numb treatment is carried out with the very minimum of discomfort.
No, your dentist will show you how to clean any hard to reach areas around the implant. But you’ll mostly clean them as you would your normal teeth.
Dental implants are designed to provide a long term solution to your gap(s). They require less frequent replacement than other solutions such as dentures or bridgework, making them an overall cost-effective solution to replace a missing tooth (teeth).
